A word from the Program Director

The Department of Biology offers MSc degrees, with thesis subjects ranging from molecular biology to community ecology in both aquatic and terrestrial systems. Research may be carried with a professor in the department or in codirection with adjunct professors at any accepted research establishment. At present, there are approximately 110 graduate students divided between the MSc and PhD programs.

• Interested students should contact professors directly with respect to possible openings and potential research programs.
• The official guide for admissions and application forms for graduate studies at Laval University should be requested from the Registrar's office web site.
• About the objectives and program descriptions, admission criteria and fields of research, see the Alerion web site. 
• All applications are sent to the Department by the Registrar's office, where they are evaluated by the departmental Committee for Graduate Studies. Successful candidates may start their program at the beginning of any session (September, January, May).

• There are a certain number of undergraduate laboratory assistant positions available each session. However, this financial support is insufficient to cover all costs; students need to find other sources of funding, a matter to be discussed directly with the potential Thesis Advisor
