Rules for the allocation of financial support and graduation bonuses

MASTER

Financial support funds:  Scholarship funds given to help support students who participate in a congress or conference and who present an oral communication or poster.  Students must provide a copy of the registration form for the congress and a copy of the abstract for the presentation or poster.  The scholarship can be obtained before the congress takes place in order to help defer the costs of travel or registration.  The value of the scholarship is subject to revision.

Value of the scholarship:  For any congress or conference held in Quebec ($ 100), in Canada ($ 250) or for any other destination ($ 350), until the maximum amount of $ 350 if the student participates in more than one congress.

Graduation bonus:  A $500 scholarship will be awarded to students who submit the first draft of their thesis before the end of their 7th semester.  The scholarship is awarded at the time of submission of the final draft of the thesis.

DOCTORATE

Financial support funds:  Under the condition of respecting the deadlines outlined in the graduate studies timeline, students have a right to financial support funds (FSF) for a maximum of 9 out of the 12 first semesters of doctorate studies or, for students transferring from a master's to a doctorate, out of the 10 first semesters following their first semester at the doctoral level.  If a step in the graduate studies timeline is not respected at time, the FSF will be withheld the next session and subsequent. The step must be completed before receiving the FSF.

The maximum annual revenue admissible to have access to financial support is $18 500 per year or $6 167 per semester.  The amount of the scholarship awarded each semester varies depending on the number of demands received.  During the last 3 years, these amounts varied between $750 and $2000 per semester.

Graduation bonus:  A $2000 scholarship will be awarded to students who submit the first draft of their thesis before the end of their 14th semester or, in the case of students transferring from a master's to a doctorate, before the end of their 11th semester at the doctoral level.

Please note that students will be penalized for not respecting the deadlines of the graduate studies timeline concerning annual meetings with their Advisory Committee.  These criteria are put in place in order to encourage doctorate students to complete their studies before the end of their 4th year, because they will no longer have access to financial support after this point.
